There's something pure about enjoying something for the sake of it as opposed to an ulterior motive. Never considered that "useless facts" fall into this category and the richness they add to life. Great essay!
P.S. I looked up etm. and am going to start using that now. Will see if any coworkers notice as I sneak it into emails in my day job :)
